General Information
Founded in 1979, The Chinese Optical Society (COS) was a nongovernmental organization of scientific and technological workers in the field of optics and optical engineering. COS was organized to advance the technology development of optics and promote the communication of scientists, engineers, educators and students.
 At present, the Society has 28 professional committees and 10 working committees with more than 20,000 individual members. Ever since the founding of the COS, it has established close relationships with the major international organizations. In 1987, COS became a member of the International Commission for Optics (ICO). COS established a long-term cooperation with the  the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), OPTICA, the European Optical Society (EOC), the Optical Society of Japan (OSJ), the Optical Society of Korea (OSK), and etc.
